It was approximately 5:35 and I was south bound on the Lefort Bypass headed towards the cement bridge. I noticed a unique looking headlight that seemed to be moving slowly. I thought it might be a motorcycle. Because of the slow speed I got slightly alarmed. You never know what you might run into in the darkness. Running a night is very different from riding in the day light. I watched the light as it slowly approached, not sure what I was looking at. On only one other occasion had I seen something that looked identical. But I know it couldn’t be. As the light passed by there was silence and I knew it was a bicycle. I noticed a blinking rear light as we passed.
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" =Msonormal>
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" =Msonormal>The only other time I had seen something like this was a few months ago when Jeff Hendricks was commuting to work.
Bayou Country Cyclists : Jeff Hendricks - Hit by Car -

    Author: Jeff Hendricks
Subject: Jeff Hendricks - Hit by Car -
Posted: 21 Jul 2011 at 12:42pm

Came home last night around 6:00, felt extremely, tired, but I'm already felling much better than I was even 3 days ago. Surgery went better than expected, they (and I) are hoping for a full recovery eventually. I haven't even gotten a chance to look at my bike yet, but I've been offered a tadpole trike and clipless pedals to borrow until my leg is up to speed. I have no doubt that if I wasn't already in good shape, it would have been a lot worse. I'm going back in 2 weeks for a post-op eval, I'll give you guys more info when I get there.

Just to give you guys a synopsis: left femur was shattered so bad the Ortho specialist at Thibodaux Regional looked at the CT scans and said "I'm not touching that, he needs to go to Univeristy" and they trucked me to LSU Medical center that night, with my loose leg still strapped to the gurney sideways.

Surgery wounds have cleaned up extremely nicely, and look tons better than I thought they would. Wound vaccuums (I know, who'd have thought of that?) sped up the process by a few days at least, I was shocked at how good they looked after only 3 days.

No other injuries to speak of... absolutely none. Some people told me my bike even looked ridable... I will certainly get the frame and fork checked for cracks before I try it. No single part on that bike cost more than $40 except the frameset, so if the trucker frame isn't tweaked, it's all good!

Tons and tons of thanks for support from everybody in the club who either visited, called, or prayed for me. I appreciate it, that's what friends are for! Don't fret, my mileage goals may be shot for the year, but I will come back again, stronger than before. Be safe, and keep on riding!
